Community Treatment Orders Program provides for the provisions made by Brian's Law. Brian's Law was government's response to recommendations of coroner's juries, members of organizations and associations, families, police, and mental health care professionals that people with serious mental illness require alternatives to hospitalization. A CTO will help make sure people get the care they need in the most appropriate setting. A CTO is signed by a physician to allow a person to be treated and supervised in his/her own community setting instead of being in a hospital. "CTO'' helps ensure safe, effective care for people with a serious mental illness.
