Dr. William Hutchinson Award
Dr. Dominic Tang Honoured with 2010 Dr. William Hutchinson Award

Dr. Tang is well recognized as a keystone in SAH’s Mental Health and Addictions Program and a consistent presence in this area of patient care for almost four decades. Soon after he started his general practice, he developed a special interest in psychiatric services and educated himself both formally and through his practice so that he could help to fill this gap.
Dr. Tang was ahead of his time in recognizing the association between mental health and addictions and he took a leadership role in the provision of services to this population. In the early days, he served as Board Chair of the now Ken Brown Recovery Home and Clinical Director of the now Detox Centre. For many years, he provided clinical support to the counsellors at the Addictions Treatment Centre and encouraged collaboration between agencies providing mental health services.
He has also been active in the medical community through his involvements with the Ontario Medical Association, Mental Health committees of the District Health Council, and as President of the Algoma West Academy of Medicine.
As part of his own lifelong commitment to clinical excellence, Dr. Tang has been a leader in organizing regular learning opportunities for the Psychiatric Department and mentoring medical students, residents, international graduates and allied health professionals.
Congratulations Dr. Tang!
