Orthopedic Equipment - A Priority for the Surgical Care Unit

Sault Area Hospital has been fortunate to recruit an additional orthopedic surgeon to serve the community; Dr. Brad Slagel will be coming to Sault Ste. Marie this fall.

The equipment he requires is instrumentation needed to support his sports medicine focus.

This includes equipment to do new procedures at SAH including shoulder arthroscopy.  One of these items is a spider arm which is a positioning device used in shoulder and wrist surgery.

These new pieces of equipment will benefit the entire ortho department as all the surgeons do some form of minimally invasive surgery on joints.

The cost of the equipment for Orthopedics - $50,000

Tenet's Spider Limb Positioner

The SPIDER Limb Positioner combines strength and adaptability to provide optimal intra-operative positioning for upper extremity procedures.  The positioner aids in shoulder procedures, lateral decubitus shoulder procedures, supine elbow procedures and wrist arthroscopy procedures.

The SPIDER is draped and all accessories are sterilized.  The SPIDER Limb Positioner attaches to the rail of most O.R. tables.  It is activated by a foot pedal and powered through the compressed nitrogen or air supply within the operating room.

With the SPIDER providing rigid support of the limb, staff efficiency is improved as assistants are freed from holding the lib during surgery.  The SPIDER Limb Positioner is designed to maintain a low profile position, out of the way of the surgeon, while delivering exceptional control and positioning capabilities for upper extremity procedures.
