Nursing at Sault Area Hospital (SAH) highly contributes to the hospital's vision of being recognized as "the best hospital in Canada and an active partner in the best community healthcare system in the country."
Many exciting things are happening at SAH and in nursing, and we have a bright future to look forward to. Nurses are at the centre of this bright future.
Performing many different roles, and working with many other professional and allied health care workers, nurses play a key role in the clinical care provided to the 120,000 residents of Algoma.
At SAH, there are over 822 nurses employed in various roles which include bedside nursing, Nurse Practitioners, Administrators, Educators, Researchers, Coordinators, Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners, Registered Nurse First Assists (Surgery), Clinical Informatics... and the list goes on.
Nursing is a profession that has deep roots beginning with Florence Nightingale and professional standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario. The nurses at SAH are proud to be part of this rich heritage and are committed to providing excellent patient care.
Several strategies are being implemented to ensure that the SAH nurses continue to meet the needs of our community and of our patients today and in the years to come. These strategies include but are not limited to the ongoing recruitment of new graduates as well as experienced nurses, implementing the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) Best Practice Guidelines, participating in New Graduate and Health Force Ontario initiatives and implementing a new electronic patient care system.
