Medical Program

Medical Units:

SAH Medical Program offers 88 acute care medical beds distributed throughout 3 inpatient units at the General site.
  • 200A: is a 20 bed inpatient unit that specializes in the care of cardiovascular and stroke patients.  It is located on the 2nd floor in the A-wing of the General site.
  • 200Y: is a 40 bed inpatient unit located on the 2nd floor in the Y-wing of the General site
  • 300Y: is a 26 bed inpatient unit located on the 3rd floor in the Y-wing of the General site
These units focus on diagnosing and caring for patients with a wide range of conditions including respiratory, gastroenterology (digestive system) and endocrinology (internal glands, ie, pancreas).

Meet the Inpatient Medicine Health Care Team


The three units are staffed with Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Personal Support Workers.  They are supported by a multidisciplinary team consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Pharmacists, Dietitians, Physicians, Nurse Educators, Case Managers, Speech Therapists, Spiritual Support, Volunteers, Unit Clerks, Respiratory Therapists.

The service promotes an interdisciplinary learning environment, often teaching a variety of students from medical residency, nursing, respiratory, physiotherapy and ambulance programs. These students are enrolled from a variety of university and colleges throughout the community, region and province.
